
It is known as the White City because of the white porous volcanic rock (sillar) that was used to build most of the its buildings. Dominated by the snow-capped El Misti volcano, it is built of white stone called sillar. Arequipa City lies at 2400 meters above sea level but it has a very pleasant climate, its days are mostly warm and sunny, and its nights are cool.
Cusco, a region with the most beautiful views of the world, surrounded by six mountains more than 6,000 meters high, is the oldest city in the western hemisphere and the cradle of the Inca civilization. Everywhere in the world it is known for the amazing archaeological ruins at Machu Picchu. Cusco is located in southern part of Peru.
The department of Lima is located in the middle western part of the country. The western part is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the eastern part by the Andes. It has an extension of 33,820 km2 and the population consists of 7 million inhabitants, almost a third part of the total population of Peru.

The city Puno which is located at the banks of the Titicaclake at 3,870 meters above sea level and is during 18 days (From the 1st of February till the 18th of February) the folcloric capital of America.
