It is possible to take a guided visit through the principal points of interest in the city, like the historical Plaza de Armas, the viewpoint of Yanahuara located only a few minutes from the center of the city, the neighborhood of San Lazaro (the zone that represents the old city of Arequipa) and the location of the outdoor ¨happy Jungle¨ which is considered to be the ¨garden of the city.
Many churches in the city conserve the initial baroque style architecture with arched stone shaping the outside of the churches and wood carvings elaborating the decorative style on the inside. The churches that stand out most in Arequipa are the ¨ Church of the Cathedral, ¨ ¨The church and the complex of the company,¨ ¨ The church of Santo Domingo,¨ ¨The convent and church of the Merced, ¨ and ¨ The convent of Recoleta.
Near the surrounding parts of the city, you can admire many beautiful spots such as : Cayma, well known as ¨the balcony of Arequipa ¨ which offers breathtaking views of the landscape surrounding the city. Sabandia is also a well known spot famous for its colonial mill which dates back to the XVII century and it´s lovely countryside where you can appreciate the prehispanic and Andean ambience along with the volcanoes Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu.
In the outskirts of Arequipa, you will see that there are many types of wonderful excursions that will give you the opportunity to experience magical and breathtaking countryside that is unlike any other place in the world. Places to check out are: The Colca Valley, The Volcano Misti, The National Salt Reserves and white water, the caves of Sumbay, the desert of Chachani, the volcano Ampato , oil reefs of Toro Muerto, and the valley of the volcanoes. Between all of these magnificent places, there is an abundance of wild flowers and animals to behold that only the unique place of Arequipa can offer.
