Fiesta de ArequipaCelebrations occur throughout this entire week Celebrations occur throughout this entire week in August with the most important date being the 15th August. These celebrations mark the founding of the city in 1540. Typically a dance exhibition called “Festidanza´” happens. This is a truly international event and involves participants from all over South America. Festidanza boasts some of the best regional folklore and the latest in modern music and dances. Also there is an enlargened handicraft market at the Fundo El Fierro and there is a very interesting general trade exhibition and even rock concerts at the FIA which feature musicians from all over Peru and Latin America On the night of the 14th August there are a number of impressive firework displays all over the city and on the 15th there is a mass ascent up Mount Misti and a parade around the centre of the town. In addition to this you can find other diverse artistic and cultural activities such as cock fights, sporting events, typical bullfights and Mardi Gras.

For this celebration the International Fair of Arequipa also takes place (located in Cerro Juli), with handicraft exhibitions in Fundo el Fierro, the Festival de Danzas-Festidanza-, traditional bull fighting and a international climbing competition up Mount Misti. On the main day, August 15th, is the Corso de Amistad.
